PRETORIA — Organisers of a proposed new Afrikaans political party have reportedly settled on the name Freedom Front Extra Plus after concluding that the Freedom Front Plus no longer offers sufficient protection for Afrikaner interests.
The decision follows a secret meeting in Fourways where delegates discussed forming a political alternative to the existing party.
‘The Freedom Front was a good start, and Freedom Front Plus was an improvement,’ explained one organiser. ‘But times have changed. We need something with considerably more plus.’
Other names considered included Freedom Front Double Plus, Freedom Front Premium and Freedom Front Pro Max.
Delegates reportedly rejected Freedom Front Minus after discovering that it suggested a reduction in Afrikaner representation.
The proposed party will campaign for stronger protection of Afrikaans, cultural self-determination and the right to complain about the decline of both.
Negotiations with the Freedom Front Plus over possible cooperation have already encountered difficulties, with both parties insisting they represent the authentic interests of Afrikaners.
A spokesperson confirmed that a final decision on the name would be made once members had agreed on the number of plus signs.
