LONDON — British singer-songwriter Ed Sheridan has reassured fans that his music is strictly about love, heartbreak and ordinary human experience, and should under no circumstances be read as a political platform. This is despite his recording studio now apparently doubling as the campaign headquarters of a small progressive party.
The clarification came after fans noticed that the walls behind the famously apolitical musician were covered in posters opposing Brexit, celebrating Jeremy Corbyn, supporting Ukraine and promoting LGBTQ+ rights.
Sheridan told reporters that his personal views had nothing whatsoever to do with his music. The posters, flags and campaign slogans, he explained, were simply part of the décor.
“I’ve always believed music should bring people together,” he said.
Industry analysts have praised his ability to keep entertainment and activism separate, noting that few artists have managed to communicate so many political positions while insisting they hold none.
Sources close to Sheridan say he has no intention of entering politics. His management team has, however, reportedly advised him to keep one wall free for the next crisis, provided it doesn’t involve Israel.
